Technology Underwriting Greater Good Selects 4 Nonprofits to Compete for $145,000
800 attendees at TUGG’s Annual Wine & Tequila Party will meet nonprofit leaders, and select grant recipients
BOSTON, February 27, 2020 — Technology Underwriting Greater Good (TUGG), the non-profit arm of Boston’s tech community, today announced the 4 nonprofits selected to compete for $145,000 at the organization’s 13th Annual Wine & Tequila Party.
“For each of our events, we focus on bringing together the Boston tech and nonprofit communities in ways that are truly engaging and meaningful for all parties involved,” said Mike Cole, executive director of TUGG. “The central activity we’ve planned for this year’s Wine & Tequila Party is designed to add excitement and focus to the conversations attendees will have during the event.”
Upon entering the Wine & Tequila party, each of the 800 attendees will receive a poker chip, and proceed to spend the evening speaking with 4 of Boston’s most promising young nonprofits. At the end of the evening, attendees will place their chip in a basket that corresponds with which nonprofit they would like to receive funding. TUGG will then distribute $145,000 in grants to the nonprofits that secured the most votes. The 4 nonprofits selected to participate include:
One Bead — Cultivating the next generation of CEO’s through community-focused problem solving, critical thinking, and entrepreneurship. Through their main programming, One Bead student teams are given $1,000 and tasked to create and execute a business plan to positively impact their community.
KodeConnect — Exposing and engaging underserved youth in dynamic STEM learning experiences to inspire the next generation of problem solvers, collaborators, and innovators.
Mbadika —Mbadika (BAH-GEE-KAH), which means idea, is a STEM non-profit focused on unleashing the innovative potential of youth to develop solutions to the challenges facing themselves and the world through product design and development. Quite simply, whether it's through hands-on workshops or our TV show, we are about ideas and those who create them.
Resilient Coders — Training people of color for high growth careers as software engineers, and connecting them with jobs.
The TUGG Wine & Tequila party will take place on March 5th from 6:00 to 10 p.m. at Boston Center for the Arts. To purchase tickets and inquire about sponsorships, visit https://tugg.org/13th-annual-wine-tequila-party.
